Chiyo Mukashi (千代昔) means “a thousand generations.” This is Nishide’s everyday ceremonial matcha from Ujitawara in Uji, Kyoto — stone-milled, shade-grown, and made for whisking with water. It has a smooth, creamy, grassy flavor, gentle umami, and low bitterness. It whisks into a silky froth and is perfect for Usucha (thin tea) or a simple matcha latte.

The Nishide family has refined tea in Ujitawara, Kyoto for more than 140 years. Takashi and Atsuko Nishide source aracha from Kyoto-area farms, blend it for a steady, well-rounded profile, and have the tencha ground slowly on stone mills. The leaves are shade-grown for three to four weeks before the spring harvest, deepening the color and umami that Uji matcha is known for.

This matcha is sourced from small family tea farms in Ujitawara in the Uji region of Kyoto, Japan, a region known for producing some of the finest Japanese green tea. Uji has been the heart of Japanese tea culture for centuries—home to the first tea trees planted in Japan and the birthplace of Zen Buddhist tea ceremonies dating back to 805 AD.

Comes in Nishide’s classic 40g set: a green-and-gold carton printed with 宇治抹茶, a tea-leaf illustration, and the name 千代昔, with a speckled dark-green metal tin and a silver foil pouch inside to keep the matcha fresh.
